Counties 2018

Good luck to all of our 55 swimmers who will be representing the club at this years County Championships starting on 20th January at Harvey Hadden.  They will be competing in 442 events over the course of the next 6 weeks culminating in the exciting relay events which are being swum long course for the first time this year.  We look forward to seeing some fast swimming from the Stingrays and some medals.  There is a full meet time line on the Notts ASA website - don't be late for warm up !

Celebration Evening 2018

It was great to see so many faces at our celebration evening on Friday evening to congratulate all of our swimmers on their successes throughout the year and to thank the volunteers who keep the club going.   This annual event was the culmination of many months of hard work by the celebration team of volunteers - Carole Moore, Rachel Benton, Adrienne Grove and Sally Sibley so a big thank you to these ladies for all their hours of hard work behind the scenes.   Thank you also to all those parents who sponsored a table and donated raffle prizes.   The highlight of the evening has to be the premiere of the CABSC mime to 'Can't stop the feeling' which was compiled by students from Confetti College - not only do we have some very talented swimmers but some budding dancers, singers and gymnasts! Our glamorous coach/ compere Kate Vines kept us entertained throughout the evening and pushed the bids up in the auction which featured some swimming and cricket memorabilia, all raising fund for the club.  We also had some fantastic raffle prizes up for grabs courtesy of Swimzi (and Liz Warner), Speedo (Justine Whitby), The Staunton Arms (Rachel Benton) and Ian Melvin at Swimstroke.  If you have any photos of the evening please can you send these to the celebration team via the CABSC facebook page and they would welcome any feedback on the event, particularly as this is the first year it's been held in this format and at the new venue.

Top boy Ben

Those of you that came along to our celebration evening the other night will have seen the slideshow that looked back on some great memories of last year but one picture which was missing (sorry it ended up in a spam box) was of Ben Pierpoint who won the top boy award at the Falcon Open meet.  Ben joined the club last year and brings great strength to our 15 year old boy team.

If you have a news story or any photographs that you would like to share on the website please email Katey Cox - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  It would also be great to have a volunteer to write the ASA stage one gala reports which feature our younger swimmers.  If you are willing please see Katey.

Arena League Round 3

The final round of this years Arena League took us to Bury St Edmunds with a tough draw against West Suffolk, West Norfolk, Modernians and local rivals Leander A.  Special thanks to all the swimmers for entering into the spirit and traveling down on the coach and for those who ‘festived up' for the occasion.  It was a long journey and a late finish especially for those competing at the club champs the next day.  Having just made the B final we did better than expected (especially with a few noticeable omissions through illness and injuries). The 11 year old boys were very impressive and the old timers Martin, Karl and Kate lead by example.  Good fun was had by all on the return journey with MacMoore’s as opposed to MacDonald’s!  Apparently the swimmers have requested this for future galas!  Thanks as always to our poolside volunteers and supporters.

Celebration Evening 2018

Happy New Year to everyone!  Hope you had a great Christmas!

Our thoughts are now turning to finalising the arrangements for the Celebration evening on the 12 January.
As you know, we are hoping to use the evening, not only to celebrate the club and its membership but also to raise funds for such things as the purchase of new/more equipment, training for new coaches and officials etc.
With this in mind, we would be grateful if anyone has any more tombola prizes to donate and, any larger items for the separate auction, perhaps connected to their working lives outside of swimming (tickets to events, specialist services they can offer, signed items of value etc). They would be most thankfully received.
In addition, we still have some tables left to sponsor if anyone is interested.
Finally, we are also looking for a few volunteers to take a turn on the tombola stall for half an hour at a time minimum so everyone can still enjoy the evening with their families and friends too, please let us know if you are willing to be put on the rota - this is being drawn up this week.
For those not able to make the evening, don't worry, we aim to hold another social event in the summer to bring many of the swimming families together -  away from the pool!

An abundance of new records set

The last few months of 2017 have seen quite a few new club records set.  Congratulations to Amy Mead who swam at the Winter Nationals in Ponds Forge and set a new record in the 14 year girls 50m Breaststroke (33.40) which was pleasing for Amy who had been hampered by illness and injury for sometime.  At the Boston Open Meet Will Halstead set new records in the 14 year 100m Breaststroke (1.13.14) and 200m Breaststroke (2.38.40) and at this years Club Champs, James Cox set a new record in the 12 years 100m Freestyle (1.00.19) and the 100 IM (1.10.82).  Well done swimmers.

Club Champs 2017

This years Club Champs faced many challenges from broken pools to the threat of being snowed it at Hucknall but true team spirit shone through and the event went ahead as planned with just a few alterations!  We couldn't have run this event without the many volunteers who gave up their time in the run up and on the day itself.  Special thanks go to Bingham Leisure and their fantastic team who fitted us in at the very last minute when Hucknall announced their closure.  There were some great swims across the age groups and we had some newcomers in the Under 9's experiencing their first taste of a licensed meet.  On the final weekend we witnessed some exciting battles in the skins races with the final winners being Lewis Warner and Becky Whittaker in the Juniors and Lilly Cherry and Jake Geary winning the Seniors.  It was the last opportunity for swimmers to achieve county times and we now have 55 swimmers entered into 442 events for the Counties starting in January 2018.  Throughout the weekend we saw the filming take place for the CABSC video which will feature at the Celebration Evening in the new year.  Thank you to everyone who supported this years event and made it a success.  We look forward to presenting the awards at Blotts on January 12th.

Club Champs Results Session 1, 2 and 3

Results for sessions 1,2 and 3 are now on the ASA rankings.  For those that are new to the world of swimming you find these by searching for  'ASA best times' on the internet - you can search by your swimmers surname or ASA number.  This does not apply to the 25m swims which we will get loaded onto the website shortly.  Big thanks to David Fortescue who had a mammoth task of manually inputting these because we didn't have electronic timing.
