English Schools Relay Finals 2017

This weekend 7 of our swimmers will be representing Robert Miles Junior School in the English Schools Relay Finals at Ponds Forge.  Here is an article that is due to feature in the Nottingham Evening Post.  The team have been sponsored by Intu and will be proudly sporting their new kit this weekend as they go up against the best schools in the country.  Good luck team RMJS, we're proud to see so many CABSC swimmers which is testament to the great coaching from all at the club.

"Pupils from Robert Miles Junior School have recently been crowned Nottinghamshire Swimming Champions at the county final, which was held at Hucknall Leisure Centre at the end of May.  The children aged from 8 to 12 competed against the rest of Nottinghamshire and put out a very strong team after narrowly missing out on the accolade last year. Headteacher, Rob Gilbey says ‘It is the first time in my 13 years of being headteacher that one of our school teams has become county schools champions. The children are all so talented, and the staff and parents of them all are so proud’.

In addition to this success the school also entered the English School Swimming Associations primary school relay championships.  4 boys and 4 girls from the school competed in the East Midlands Regional Qualifiers at Louth Leisure Centre last month, and after some superb swims, each team qualified for the National Finals, in both the Freestyle relay and the mixed stroke relay, with the boys becoming double regional champions!! In fact, we are led to believe Robert Miles Junior School, are the only team in England to have 4 teams qualify for the National Finals, which will take place at Sheffields, Ponds Forge International Centre, this coming Saturday.
The boys and girls relay team will compete against 23 of the very best English Schools this weekend, many of which, have their own pools on the school grounds.
‘Once again, it’s a massive achievement, and the speed of these children in the swimming pool amazes me. Just to qualify for this event is remarkable, but I’m reliably informed that some of our teams have a good chance of actually making the final's on the day. Regardless, of what happens, we will all be there cheering them on, and hope they have a fantastic time. They deserve it!’ says headteacher Rob Gilbey.

A big thank you has to go to the coaches at CABSC where 7 of the team regularly train & have developed into such strong competitors, as well as the staff at school & Nottinghamshire School Swimming Team. The children have just received some fabulous personalised tops for the event which have been very kindly sponsored by intu.

As the season comes to a close and we're all looking forward to a break some of our senior swimmers are still focused on the remaining event of the year which they have working hard to qualify for over the last few months.  Representing CABSC at this years British Champs is Jacob Carrington in the 50m backstroke and Amy Mead will be swimming for NOVA in the 50m, 200m and 400m Freestyle and the 100m breaststroke.  Live streaming of this event will be shown on the British Swimming website.  We also have a number of swimmers who have qualified for the Home Nations Championships - representing CABSC will be Jacob in the 100m backstroke, representing NOVA will be Kris Moodley in the 1500m freestyle, Amy Mead in the 100m freestyle, 200m and 400m IM and representing Derventio is Karl Morgan in the 50m freestyle.   Joe McCallion will be swimming at the Scottish Nationals in the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke.  Congratulations to all these swimmers who have been swimming up and down the country to qualify for these events and we wish them well in August.
