Retirement celebrations

July 2013 saw the 'retirement' of two much loved and respected lessons teachers at Calverton pool. Betty Snodin got into teaching after her young son started swimming at Calverton Swimming Club back in the day!......he is now 43 with children of his own! Betty has successfully taught hundreds of nervous and quaking novice children to swim over the past 35 years which is a great achievement, and, although approaching her 75th birthday in September, she will continue to teach local schoolchildren in Calverton to swim for as long as she is able.

Paddy Cawthan has been teaching at Calverton for the past 8 years, nurturing and encouraging lessons swimmers into the dreaded deep end! Fortunately we won't lose Paddy completely and she will continue to teach on poolside at our regular Sunday Junior sessions at Calverton where she works alongside her daughter Tracey and Janet, so we will keep her wealth of experience with our younger swimmers.

Everyone at CABSC wishes both ladies a happy retirement ..............you have earned it, thanks for your efforts and hard work over the years - see attached photo.

NB Lessons at Calverton will resume on Friday 6th September at 7pm. Anyone with a child coming up to their 5th birthday interested in CABSC lessons should contact our website and someone will call you.

AMBER GETS A SILVER MEDAL

Congratulations to CABSC and NOVA swimmer AMBER KEEGAN who last night was presented with a silver medal with a lifetime's best time in the 400m IM......see this report on THE British Swimming website. Fantastic result - we are so proud of you Amber!

Our thoughts are also with Amber's team mate Rosie Rudin who was one of the favorites to win, but was unfortunately disqualified in the heats in the same event. Rosie has one more event still to come, 200m IM on Sunday 14th July, and we all wish her GOOD LUCK for this event.

The British Gas GBR swimming team sealed their first medals on the opening day of the 2013 European Junior Swimming Championships in Poznan, Poland with Amber Keegan setting the ball rolling as she claimed silver in the Women’s 400m Individual Medley.

In a session dominated by semi-final action, Keegan showed her class to produce an exceptional breaststroke leg and pull back from sixth to second place, before holding on for her medal in the freestyle leg.

"The 15 year old’s breathtaking performance saw her smash through her previous personal best by six seconds, eventually touching in 4:46.83.

“I’m so happy with that swim,” said the Nova Centurion swimmer. “I wasn’t sure what to expect coming in to this meet as it’s all quite new but I’m over the moon.

“This is my first European Junior Championships so to win a silver medal is great.”
