Stage 3 round 2 2013 report

Congratulations to those swimmers who represented the club in round two of the Nott's ASA Stage 3 gala at Retford on 25th May. With a team hit hard by the school holidays and the City of Sheffield No Frills meet they secured 2nd place on the night behind Leander A and ahead of Sherwood, Newark and Sutton, a result which should qualify us for the final on 15th June.

There were some solid swims on the night but special mention to our 12 year old boys, Jorge, Jack R, Matthew and Liam who all competed in the 14 year old age group as well as their own and to George who held them all together with two outstanding races on PB times.

Thanks also to Karl and Heavenly (and Karl's mum) who made the journey back from Sheffield, Mark P and Katie L for showing that age is not always a barrier and for Rosie R who filled in all the gaps without complaint.

Thanks to our poolside squad of helpers and to the parents for their support.

PS Times for this gala will be posted once verified by the League Manager

CABSC Swimmers Rosie Rudin, Amber Keegan and Karl Morgan took part in the British Gas International Meet in Leeds from 7th - 10th March 2013.  Swimming as part of the county squad, NOVA Centurion, they achieved the following.

  • Rosie Rudin 1st jnr 400 IM (EJC QT), 4th jnr 200 IM (EJC QT), 6th jnr 200 Bc. All in personal best times.
  • Amber Keegan 2nd jnr 400 IM (EJC QT) in personal best time.
  • Karl Morgan 2nd jnr 100 Fr (GBR 'B' team consideration) in personal best time, 4th jnr 50 Fr in season best time.

Both Rosie and Amber have made the qualifying standards for the GBR Junior European Team and have been selected to represent Great Britain at the European Junior Championships to be held in Poznan, Poland, 10th - 14th July. Karl Morgan will be considered for the GBR 'B' team and has an outside chance of consideration for the EJC team based on his strong performances in the shorter Freestyle events.

Well done to all three swimmers.... such an amazing achievement!

Sports Centre League Round 1 2013

A big thank you to all those swimmers who took part in this gala on Saturday 9th Feb at Retford. Results will be available asap for swimmers to check for PB'S.

Following a change in emphasis with this early group of galas we selected a mixture of experienced and inexperienced swimmers and were rewarded with some solid and surprising performances on the night. Special mention goes to our 9yr olds Chloe, Tom, Jack and Hermione who took 3rd place in both of their relays and led the cannon at the end of their swims. George P and Katie L who both bravely swam despite being ill and Jack R who swam additional races to cover for George. Further mention to Will Halstead who came 3rd in the 11/under BR despite only just turning 10 and finally to Mark P who at 45+ gives hope to us all by giving the younger lads a scare in the Open Category.

Despite finishing in 6th place, behind 5 very strong teams, it was good to see that our skills focus in training is starting to filter through into racing technique.

As always thanks to our poolside team and parents without whom none of this would be possible.
